The Celestial Lady is amongst my earliest works. When I was a child, I loved space- specifically stars, galaxies, and nebulas-the pretty stuff- and decided I wanted to be an astronomer! Alas, God did not bless me with the ability to do math without having a mental breakdown, so instead of studying the stars and galaxies, I painted them.
I am a self-taught artist and found star-scapes to be an easy way to learn how to use my chosen medium of oil paint- how to blend them and mix them, and I found star-scapes to be pretty forgiving and beginner friendly. With this piece, just like one might see shapes in the clouds, I saw a shape in a photo of a nebula I came across in a Hubble Telescope book, and I decided to go with it.
This is painted on a 20in x 24in original oil on stretched canvas.
